As electronic dance music has evolved, so have Reno natives Matt Madonna (a.k.a. 4centers) and Ryan Anderson (Probiotik). The two DJ/producers grew up on trance and house but took special interest with the advent of glitch-hop and dubstep. Just over a year ago, they joined forces as Love and Light, and they are quickly rising to the top of the proverbial food chain.
Love and Light has begun to headline shows across the U.S. and their tracks have garnered tens of thousands of plays on Soundcloud.com. Perhaps the secret to their success comes from their remixes of popular tracks, such as The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” or The Police’s “Roxanne.” Perhaps it is due to their mastery of multiple genres. In their arsenal, they have the mid-tempo, wompy bass sound, similar to the likes of VibeSquad, the melodic crunkstep sound popularized by Opiuo, the deep, and the prolonged bass drops such as those from Heyoka. All of their songs have intricate synths that keep the sound interesting and the dancefloor moving.
On their latest EP, Love and Light will flex their musical prowess with the release of “The Light We Bring” their second EP in five months. The five-track album features the down-tempo dubstep track “You’re the Reason Why,” and four dancefloor heaters that hit right around 100 bpms with mighty buildups and crescendos. The best example of those four is “Good Vibes,” which combines epic samples of choir and computer with their signature wobble.
