Crushendo (formerly Slim Thugz) are the eclectic pioneers of the Mile High Sound Movement; a Colorado duo comprised of Frequent C & The Candyman traveling from festivals to venues blasting their own brand of intelligent bass music. Intricate melodies woven through an astounding percussive pattern characterize the hip-hop infused sounds of Crushendo’s debut EP, Drop Logic, which presents to listeners their signature “Jazz-Step” creations. As the boys are often accompanied by live drums and saxophone, their newest release on Simplify is dynamic, crisp, keeping the authenticity and feel of a live performance. REVIEW: “The production duo comprised of Cody Yozipovic and Julian Garland operating under the new moniker Crushendo (formerly known as Slim Thugz), marks an evolution in the sound of their preceding musical endeavor. The EP symbolizes not only the birth of a new alias, but a notable maturity in their roles as seasoned producers. An appropriately titled, “Drop Logic”, out on Simplify recordings exhibits their ability to produce at different tempos, as each song is at a unique BPM, while still keeping the five track progression coherent and fluid. The amalgamation of sounds are masterfully articulated, giving the whole release an impressive dynamic range and fullness, without compromising the clarity of their composition. Eloquent builds found in each musical journey of Drop Logic manifest an extremely listenable, relaxing, and somewhat seductive environment, while the drops themselves are quite grandiose and energetic, allowing for any bass heavy aficionado to get down on the dance floor.

Each producer has their shining moments distinguished by their unique individual styles, yet the album melds together profoundly. The serene, classic key work and composition of Yozipovic harmonizes with Garland’s ripe, bouncing sound design throughout Drop Logic, evoking strong emotion through their complex ballad like structure. The recently coined terms, “Jazz Step”, and “Intelligent Bass Music” representing their sonic elucidation remain somewhat open for interpretation, while allowing the duo to strive for innovation every time they experiment in the lab. Crushendo held an outstanding performance during their EP release party at Cervantes this past weekend with an amazingly refreshing, heartfelt energy establishing what both their new repertoire and live performance bring to the table.
